Updating your wardrobe with vintage clothing for work, part 2.

Part 2 of how to maximise vintage for work!

1.       Avoid trousers unless you are willing to put in the hard yards trying them all on. Most people want to spend 20minutes max in a charity shop, trust your instincts. Don’t forget day dresses too. Most op shops have large dress areas, throw that on with a suit jacket and you have the perfect day to night outfit.  Two or the best opportunity shop groups are Red Cross threads stores and The Brotherhood of St Lawrence. The Red Cross have a deal with Country Road so all of their old and unsold stock is donated to them. The Brotherhood have similar ties with Barkins and Satch.
2.       Accessorise. The best way to update an outfit is to buy contrasting accessories. This is one area Opportunity shops are in their element and it’s also the one area most shoppers miss. Take time to look at the belts, scarves, bangles and necklaces. I can guarantee you’ll be surprised and what you see.
3.       Don’t forget Ebay. If you are willing to put in the time, browse pants, jackets and shirts. Again the same rules apply, go for brands that you recognise in your size. To maximise what you want to pay put all the items you are interested in on a watch list. Add the ones you really like to your calendar and bid the maximum you are willing to pay 40seconds before the auction ends. This way you increase your chances of winning the item without getting sucked into paying more for something just because you want to win it.
4.       Lastly think about a clothing exchange. Most of your friends have clothes that they don’t wear or have fallen out of love with. Some of my best items have been from other peoples closets. Invite a few of your friends around for a clothing exchange, throw in some nibbles and wine and you’ll walk away with a whole new wardrobe that you got to try on and swap some of your unwanted items for.

Happy hunting guys. for inspiration visit the website http://www.chevali.com.au/
