Meeting Marikit

Sometimes in this little sideline business of mine I meet the most interesting people. I love finding out about how other people are trying to establish and find their way in fashion around a real job. And that's how I became aware of Marikit. Kitty from Marikit contacted me about selling some of her awesome knits through Chevali. And whilst it probably isn't right for my online store I still wanted to share her story with you as Kitty's knits are just gorgeous.

Kitty's mum was  a dressmaker and because money was tight with both parents working all the time, she taught Kitty how to knit so that she could keep her busy!

"Believe me, my first knitting piece was the weirdest shape! I remember it was bright yellow and it was meant to be a rectangle, but it ended up being the shape of an omelet with holes through it as big as your thumb!!! I'm a stubborn chickie, and with mum giving me more encouragement, I continued"  Kitty says.

"I remember my first garment, don't laugh, it was for my first boyfriend when I was 16! I was so proud of myself . I slaved over it for so long, and when I gave it to him he was just so impressed! That's why I love knitting so much, knitting is such a loving gesture because you think about the person while you knit every stitch, and the person will always remember you when they see the knit you created"

I just love that sentiment, so if you ever buy anything from Kitty you know that real love actually went into making it. Kitty has her own Facebook page which you can access here (Marikit Knits Facebook) and you can contact her about buying some of her designs or have her make something for you. Kitty doesn't use patterns she literally see something and can make it! Plus all of her knits are totally affordable at under $100.

The name 'Marikit' came about because Kitty wanted to share this venture with her husband (who's Philipino)  as Marikit is actually Filipino for 'lovely/beautiful'. She didn't want a name with any of the usual play on words and it wasn't until she chose the name that she realised it also had some of her name in it too!

Anyway I just wanted to share her story with you, I am a huge fan of knitwear, so throughout this post you can see Kitty wearing some of her designs.  If any of you create, design or make clothing especially dresses please contact me as I may be able to help you out as a distribution channel, or simply share your story!
