Television as style icon

I don’t know about you, but I keep getting excited by the raft on new TV shows that hit our screens each year, but not just because they look entertaining, because the styling is often amazing. I wrote a post a while back on the roaring twenties and how both Boardwalk Empire & Underbelly Razor have inspired a sea of prohibition fashion on the high street. Well get ready, as its about to get even better.

Here are a few of my Faves.

Madmen

The original 1950’s and 1960’s style gem that found an audience. It inspired madmen themed parties globally and girls with hips and big thighs celebrated throughout the world that the full skirted dress was back. A beautiful trend that is still going strong.

Pan Am

Never have the sixties been so chic and cool. Pencil skirts, hats, gloves and quite simply the sexiest flight attendant wear I’ve ever seen. Ah if only the planes were as big as the sets in this show!

The playboy club

What the girls from Pan am and madmen wear at night!

The Kennedys

Oh Jackie O eat your heart out. Riding outfits, the Jackie coloured suit, big bouffant hair and men that look like they are from a Ralph Lauren ad. Its Jock America in the sixties at its best.

Boardwalk Empire

Prohibition never looked so good.

Deadwood

From the whores to the widow, each outfit perfectly conveyed the reality of what women had to wear in the early 1800’s. Shame Wild Boys didn’t take note.

Nikita

Wow I want to be a spy and look like Maggie Q. How to be a sexy assassin. Lots of hot evening wear and tight leather pants. In my head I look this good.

Mildred Pierce

Even the dowdy clothing in this 1940’s mini series, look fantastic. Hats and furs and plenty of nakedness.

Sex and the City

The original, the best. Lost its way a bit in the second movie, but still iconic for a reason.

Secret diary of a call girl
Being a hooker never looked so good! Billie Pipers outfits got better and better as the seasons went on.
I'm looking forward to seeing some of this hit the high street! What have I missed, what other fabulously styled TV shows are there out there?
