Tis' the season to be married | How do I add a vintage touch to my look?

Today's guest post is by Kate Diamond and Trilby Burgess from Wonderful Wraps in the UK. (Who just so happen to be very good friends of mine). Wonderful Wraps as the name suggests specialise in the most stunning accessories for your wedding day. This kind of vintage glamour is hard to come by in Australia mainly based on our weather, but that doesn't mean you can't find a theme or a trend in here for your big day. So spring means wedding season and here are their top tips on how to work this fabulous accessory. I love what their brand does because it offers that little extra vintage inspired piece that makes your outfit just that little bit different. Enjoy!

The Wonderful World Of Wraps - Our Top Tips for that must have look!

So, this is not a history lesson but merely a dip into the wonderful world of wraps! From ways to wear them to ideas for dresses that may work well with this must have accessory. We want to add inspiration to your perfect wedding event! At Wonderful Wraps, we have just celebrated 20 years in the business and just love to share any knowledge that we may have accumulated in this time with our ever growing followers and fellow fashionistas!

If you are thinking about booking that gorgeous apple orchard, cricket green, beach or castle as your wedding venue - a beautiful wrap will keep you covered up and sophisticated whatever the weather. If you are getting married on the beach or in warmer weather, we still have classic options to mix up your look.

This season, style savvy  brides in Europe have been keeping warm in stylish cover-ups that play with volume, material and texture. From jaunty jackets to delicate boleros, a well chosen  accessory can frame and compliment your dream wedding dress and can elegantly camouflage upper arms or show off areas that you want to reveal to your public!.

Wraps come in many forms and styles, and are able to be worn in a variety of ways, giving you the ability to freely and simply customise your look based on your theme, mood or moment. This adds easily achievable glamour to your ensemble and keeping you warm (multi-functional purpose!) at the same time. Ladies, take note! Cost saving and getting value for your money is paramount in this current climate! A wrap can certainly make your outfit or tie in with your colour for the day if you so desire. Wraps, of any nature, are both versatile, (working with any body shape) and functional, to balance out your dress and you can style your dress by wearing your wrap in different ways (check out 3 different looks below). If you have a passion for the trending vintage look there is nothing better than a wrap to complete your outfit, think Audrey Hepburn perhaps. Or the one and only Elizabeth Taylor, old school Hollywood glamour at its finest!

One way to style your wedding dress is take a step back in time to the style of the roaring ‘20s! This look oozes early American ‘High Society’ at a time where the economy was soaring and people were enjoying prosperity and hedonistic delight! A perfect way to achieve this look is to pair a ‘sheath’ dress with a dramatic faux fur shawl style wrap that has length and texture. Or, maybe a faux fur bolero style to give more presence and volume to your overall look.

Another style of dress that screams for a wrap embellishment is the ‘Fishtail’ or‘ Trumpet‘ dress. It has existed for centuries, especially in the Victorian era but it really skyrocketed in popularity in the early 20’s and is ever more popular today with its throw back of Jazz Age elegance. The design was certainly trending on the Red Carpet at the recent Golden Globe awards amongst many of the Hollywood ‘A’ listers. The dress is flattering to all body shapes. The fitted bodice and nipped-in waist of the garment mixed with the fishtail hem or train offers drama and volume. Pair this with a stole, as shown below, and u get an instant fusion of formal elegance and visual interest.

Faux Fur was shown in abundance at the autumn shows of 2011, and designers were aware enough of the recession to not have gone overboard. But the prevailing dark mood of European romanticism did yield fur trim on everything. A little fur, worn with restraint, goes a long way to add drama to this seasons full-bodied dresses. The full, ball gown style dates back to the mid 1800’s and really does play with that fairy tale theme. It screams ‘belle of the ball’ and what better way to finish off the romantic tone than to add a loose faux fur open bolero or marabou shrug. Feathers have also been huge in the bridal world of accessorizing and can really capture that ethereal look you maybe after!

With the true full sized mid Victorian design, we think there is no better way than to add the lightness and texture of feathers to give a less ‘dated’ look. Our example is a modern take on the original (A Caroline Herrera ball gown from her 2012 collection), with an A line structure but beautifully enhanced with a delicate, feather encrusted bolero.

And to finish off our little trip through the sumptuous sensation that is known as the wrap in any one of its forms, it’s only fitting to finish with one of our own creations! Here it is paired with a simple but chic ivory gown. We think you will agree that this best selling bespoke organza cloak makes the dress ‘pop’ with angelical style. This could definitely be the piece de rĂ©sistance for a picture perfect spring wedding. It’s all about the magic touches and that wonderful wrap that’s right for you!
