Kate Winslet and I are almost practically the same age, and weirdly enough I always use her as my benchmark about how I am fairing as I age, versus celebrities. The reason I love her so much is her down to earth nature and ‘normal’ body type. I love that she was furious at Maxim for photoshopping her with longer legs and that she admits that after Sense and Sensibility she straved herself to conform to Hollywood.
90% of the time I love love what Kate wears. I think she always finds classy and classic pieces that flatter her figure without trying to look younger. She looks exactly as she should. Ok, so there have been a few things I haven’t liked. The first Stella McCartney dress was amazing, but wearing it in about 3 different version because you know how flattering it is, makes it feel as though she has something to hide under that fabric, and trust me she does not.
This run of dresses below are all from her 2009 red carpet season and shows how she works her curves. My favourite is the electric blue Narciso Rodriguez that she were to the SAG awards.
Here she is in the Octavia dress that she (and many other celebs) are having a love affair with. The white one looks amazing, but you've worn it once you can't really do it again!
I love that Kate is also a big supporter of fellow Brit Victoria Beckham. Whilst I am not sure about the Khaki number below I love the black dress. Simple and elegant.
I also love Kate in Black and white. The Golden Globes always seem to bring out the best in her! I just can't fault what she wore this year right down to her accessories.
But my absolute favourite look for Kate is the show stopping red dress by Elie Saab that she wore to the Emmys last year. A simple and beautiful design. I'm expecting lots of copies of this dress in the high street stores!
This and the Narciso are my favourite! More photos of the blue stunner just because I love it so much. Kate was interviewed in the December issue of Instyle UK about her fashion and said the following:
"Glamour to me is about remaining graceful and understated. For example, with very bold lip colours, you can’t overdo the rest of your face. With a bright-red party lipstick, just go with lots of mascara and keep everything else clean"
And lastly this is what happens when Kate gets it wrong. Bad is so many ways. This is what happens when you try to hide your curves instead of embrace them. And so how am I going benchmarking myself against her? I think I'm doing ok!!
