Working the red carpet | 2012 Golden Globes

Like everyone else I love a good bit of red carpet action, and the first session of the year was the Golden Globes yesterday, What makes this event better is Ricky Gervais and his hilarious Hollywood pisstake, but I'm not here to write about him! The Golden Globes themselves are a bit of a joke voted for by 13 middle ages housewives who live in Asia (Or so my actor Husband says), so no one takes them quite as seriously as the Oscars. But for both the Fashion and the winners, its a warm up event. So lets get cooking.

I saw a lot that I liked on the red carpet (Kate, Jessica's, Michelle, Katharine) and a lot that I hated (Sarah, Madonna...) but there were a few themes to pick out of the event. But first lets talk about my favourites.

My own personal preference is for understated cool glamour. And as I mentioned on Facebook I just can't go further than Katharine McPhee (Am I excited for 'Smash oh yes), and the Jessicas, Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel. Neutral tones in champagne and dusty beige dressed up with fabulous beading or sparkles and flattering cuts.

I also like a bit of monochrome contrast, and for that reason I really liked what both Claire Danes and Kate Winslet did. Kate knows how to work her curves and I love that she never gives into being a size 0.

So some of the themes to pick out and look out for at the Oscars are:

  1. Blues, lots of variations on the colour.
  2. Structure, lots of women being held in in all the right places
  3. Mermaid and fish tails
  4. Backless gowns
  5. Glam neutrals (my favourite)
  6. Burnt hues such as burgundy and mahogany (takes a certain type of woman to pull these colours off!)
  7. Mixing monochrome.
OK so on to what I didn't like. Please someone tell Sarah Michelle Gellar that letting your kid choose your dress is a disaster.

Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, seen here in joint shocker.

And here are some that I am on the fence about. Elle McPherson stick to your beautiful day wear, there is just way too much going on here!

And Angelina Jolie, quite simply I am scared of you write now. Are you going to kill me?

Charlize Theron, stunning hair and make up.  Bit too much going on at the front of her dress!

I think the reason I like glam neutrals so much is because it is achievable for the every woman! There are a few of these hues on Chevali at the moment! Next stop, the Oscars.
