This time of year I get very excited when the season change, because it means I can start wearing knits. Being from Europe a stylish knit (Or 10) is a wardrobe staple year round. When I first moved to Australia I really had to reassess my style in the hotter months as it wasn't something that I was used to.
But come Autumn I feel like I come in to my own. Yes I miss the warm weather and balmy nights, but the prospect of wearing a gorgeous knit and bringing out the knee high boots spurs me on.
I have a whole section in my wardrobe dedicated to knits, and people that know my wardrobe well can attest to the fact that there are a lot in there, and yet I still want more.
So I thought I'd share a few things that I like at the moment. First of all one of the best places to get knits this time of year is actually from Europe. Mainly because they are all on sale and have an array of choice not always seen on this side of the world. My first port of call was of course Topshop and here are 2 little beauties that I bought last week.
The grey tight sweater is going to be a staple. I have a black one just like it and its so flattering and works with everything. I plan to get myself a leather skirt of some sort and create an outfit just like the one below. (More on that in a minute).
The second jumper, whilst sleeveless, is one of those long jumpers that will cover my bum in straight or skinny jeans and will create a long column look. I'll wear this with a soft cotton long sleeved top underneath in black, white or grey, black jeans and my biker boots.
So here is one look I am contemplating for the grey jumper. A staple white singlet underneath to create a layered effect (I will wear this out and not tucked in!), a leather skirt, but this will also work with pants, jeans and any type of skirt. Pair this with some interesting tights and biker or knee high boots and then create some texture with a snakeskin bag or something else with a pattern, and we have a perfect look for Sunday lunch or work or after work drinks. Very versatile. You could also add in interesting scarves with a splash of colour to this too.
The other staple I can't live without is the long belted cardigan. Look at this gorgeous one from Old Navy in the states (Who deliver worldwide). Again, maximum comfort, stylish and create a good silhouette on the body. I have about 3 or 4 of these styles in a few colours.
There are a lot of dipped colour jumpers on the market at the moment too. The one below is from Sportsgirl, but I bought one from Sussan that is in the same price range and equally as versatile. Perfect for throwing on, on a Saturday morning when you don't know what to wear to breakfast. I've been wearing mine with jeans, flats and boots.
You can also not go past the stripe! So stylish and easy to pull off. This weekend I bought another striped jumper by a surf brand that I lived in all weekend, over a white singlet and tracksuit pants! Perfect winter beach attire. I also wear stripes with tan accessories or red accessories for a marine look. You can find stripes everywhere at the moment and they work with all kinds of bottoms depending on the fit of the jumper. The one below is from French Connection.
Lastly the old school cable knits are back and they are everywhere. If you don't mind spending a little bit more you can get something like these two, from Country Road and Witchery respectively. I saw a girl at work in the grey one yesterday and she looked fab. The red one I picked up myself on a recent trip to Sorrento and paired it with skinny black jeans, biker boots and a multicoloured scarf.
