I was reading an article this morning on www.theage.com.au which you can read Here about pre-war fashion. It references Downton Abbey which I absolutely adore, and which I previously wrote a blog post about called Downton Abbey fashion with a twist. Pre-war fashion has some gorgeous art-deco traits, which made me think of my all time favourite pre-war art deco dress. This stunning silk green dress worn by Keira Knightly in Atonement. Costume designer Jacqueline Durran created this dress from scratch for the film.
However I decided to have a look at what else Keira wore in the film and came across this gorgeous scene with the fountain and instantly fell in love with this outfit. What I love about this is that its so easy to wear it today. Sure, the green dress is amazing, but how many occasions do we have where we can wear something like that?
All you need to get this look is a beautiful blouse and complimentary maxi skirt, with a 30's & 40's inspired hairdo. (Carrying huge bunch of flowers and vase optional).
Here are a couple of ideas of how you might try this look in the real world. As always these sets are saved on Polyvore which you can access here to get all the stockist, most of which you can buy online.
All the major online brands have multitudes of maxi skirts and blouses. How about these two together from ASOS.com?
Pick soft fabrics and peach, apricot, beige, cream and rose tones to get your look. Ladylike fashion is here to stay for a while.
