2013 - stylishly organised

Happy new year everyone, how fast did the Christmas holidays go?? Blink and you miss it.

So now we are well and truly in to January, and for many, (including me) we are back at work. January is such a great time to get organised in all areas of your life and true to my Virgo star sign, I am an ardent planner and organiser. There was one day over Christmas where I spent an hour re-organising my accessories, which led to a full blown wardrobe tidy up, and even now I am thinking of ways to make my room more efficient for easier outfit matching in the morning.

Anyway such is my love for all things organised, I thought I'd write a little post on some great quick wins that you can do to get organised this year with your wardrobe, fashion and styling. Enjoy!

1. Have a chuck out frenzy! My husband calls my random tidy ups 'frenzy's' and I guess that's apt. I see something that doesn't quite sit right in its space and its time for it to go, which usually results in a huge overhaul that I don't have time for. Are there things in your wardrobe that you haven't worn in ages? If you haven't used them in 18months time for them to go, and that includes shoes, accessories and bags. If you can't bear to part with them box them up and remove them from the wardrobe! One of the first posts I ever wrote was about how to organise your wardrobe, click the link here to have a read. 2. Make a list of what you need. Sale time in January is the perfect time to stock up on staples. Every wardrobe needs a few classic pieces that work with a variety of things and now is the perfect time to get them at a cost that doesn't hurt as much. Think classic straight leg jeans in black and blue denim, blazers, white singlets and shirts, nude shoes. Etc. Here is a link to a post I wrote a year or so ago on wardrobe staples! 3. Recycle - Donate or update. Not only is the new year the perfect time to have a chuck our frenzy, its also a perfect time to find fab items in charity stores from other women doing the same as you! Normally by about mid January there are some fab finds to be discovered in your local opportunity shop, especially accessories such as unwanted bags and scarves. I wrote a blog post here previously on how to get the best out of Op shopping! Shopping for vintage part 1

Another alternative is to get creative. Get yourself down to spotlight or the market and think about updating some of your pieces with small embellishments or change the role of certain pieces of clothing by going to your local alteration store. A good cheap way to revamp your clothing.

4. Pinch your mans stuff. I've accidentally washed a few of the husbands jumpers and shrunk them and then realised they now fit me and are perfect with boyfriend jeans and boots. Have a look in his wardrobe (when he isn't looking) and see what you can 'borrow'. Is there a nice white shirt, or a preppy jumper that you could work into your wardrobe?

5. Accessorise. Sometimes if the budget is a bit tight I love a good shopping session for accessories. Especially in the sales. Stock up on cuffs, necklaces, broaches, earrings, belts and scarves. Sportsgirl and Witchery always have great sales in this area. My favourite high street store out of the UK Accessorize now ships globally, and with their huge sale there is really no excuse not to. 6. Get some new hangers. They don't have to be posh wooden ones, just get a load that match. You will be amazed at the difference it makes in your wardrobe and how well you will be able to see everything. Oh and why you are at it buy hooks, lots of them. Totally underrated and  yet extremely useful for belts, scarves, maxi dresses and the likes. A cheap way to be able to see everything you own in your wardrobe!
