The colour challenge - What we bought!

Ok so it’s time to discuss the personal shopping challenge that Jodie set me. Its been a while to get to this point because due to the online shopping boom for Christmas it has taken weeks for the ASOS package to arrive. For a recap on the brief read my earlier post here The Colour challenge post on why Jodie set me a colour challenge. It’s a great and interesting brief and it was really fun helping her out. Her budget was $200 but I actually only spent $155 of her hard earned cash.

I think I spent about 2 hours making sure I found the right items and sizes on Asos. As Jodie mentions in her brief she has a teeny tiny waist and more shapely hips and thigh area, which many clothing brands fail to cater for. How many times have you bought a pair of jeans to fit your legs and then have a gaping waist! So I made the choices based on the brief, her body shape and the colours available. The one thing I wasn’t able to get was anything in yellow. Yellow is so hot right now and Asos had sold out!

So here is what we bought Jodie:

This fab T shirt in red in a size 10. Jodie is petite up on the top and this t-shirt is a great baggy style but not out of shape. It can sit on the hips and be off the shoulder and is great for her active lifestyle. The red colour is really versatile.

This white singlet, you simply cannot have enough white singlets. This one can be tucked in or worn over jeans or pants. We got this is a size 12 as on the model it looked quite small.

This burnt red t-shirt in size 10. This is long enough to cover some bumps and any gaping at the back when trousers don’t fit, but also pulled in at the waist to show off some off one of Jodie’s best assets.

This fab green jacket that we also got Sally in the $150 challenge. We got this in a size 10 as double breasted jackets hang wide when you don’t do them up. Because its cropped I thought it would be great for layering and again showing off Jodie’s waist.

This beautiful skirt in a size 12 which we also got Sally. Even Jodie will admit this is a bit girly for her, but again very versatile. Can be dressed up or down. Jodie likes to wear things on her hips so I got a size 12 so that she could push it lower with shirts, but also wear it on the waist with a belt.

And this is where I took a bit of a risk. I bought these bright blue skinny jeans. Jodie panicked a bit when she saw these on the order form, but I paid close attention to the size the model was wearing on the listing and made a good thigh estimate and went in at a size 12. These jeans are something that Jodie would never ever buy for herself, but are so practical for her life with her active son, yet incredibly sexy and trendy at the moment. When you buy jeans, especially jeans with a lot of stretch you really need to go a size or 2 smaller than you normally do as they always give. (Case in point today I am wearing bright red cropped Country Road jeans in size 8 and they have given so much in 2 wears that I have to pull them in with a belt!).

And these chinos were also a risk. The burnt orange colour isn’t really something Jodie wanted but I thought would go well with her colouring. She has very olive skin and green eyes so I thought these would really work on her. The cut on chinos and cropped chinos are really flattering and they are very forgiving on size. We got these in a size 12 too and they make Jodie look like a size 10.

So the package arrived yesterday and we quickly ran into a meeting room (at work in our real daytime jobs in advertising) and had a super fast trying on session. Jodie had a heart attack when she saw the blue jeans. But they fitted like a glove and here is a sneak peak of how fabulous she looks.

So the next step is to mix all of these items in with her wardrobe and shoes and take a lot of photos to share them. I still can’t believe we managed to buy all of this for $155 Australian dollars. Jodie still needs to write how she feels about the clothing. But I can tell you this, she is wearing the burnt orange chinos to work today.....

The main win here is that these are clothes Jodie would never have ever bought herself! She has had a massive confidence boost and all the girls in the office can't believe how amazing she looks!
