What to wear on Christmas day?

So if you live in Australia like I do, Christmas tends to be a warm affair. However the age old conundrum of what do I wear on Christmas day becomes a bit more of a challenge. I mean if you live in Europe (where I am from) it’s actually very easy to choose. You can wear a combination of smart jeans, knee high boots, blazers, maybe a waist coat. Maybe something with a fur trim. Or dress up a great dress with a beautiful jacket Its easy just to put in a bit more effort when its colder as there are more options to layer an outfit to make it smart. Here are a few great examples I found on ASOS fashion finder for that winter Christmas. Click the link here to view all of them.

But what do we do in Australia where it’s warm and unpredictable and in some states wet and wild?

1.      Wear a dress
For a start I am a massive fan of the maxi dress. There are a few in Country road at the moment that are perfect for Christmas day. The core goal is something a little bit more dressy than usual, but that its comfortable, looks good AND allows you to stuff you face without having to undo your belt. There are some fantastic dresses in store at Chevali that are also perfect for Christmas day, and here are a selection of them. Here is also a photo of me and my friend Jenny on Christmas day in maxi dresses. Another tip - always add accessories! Will dress up the plainest of maxi!

Wear chinos or pants in a lightweight fabric
Another option is a chino pant. I’m absolutely planning this year to wear these white chinos from Country road with a nice top or singlet depending on the weather, some gorgeous flats and a hat.
In previous years I’ve been known to wear my Christmas day halo, and it may also get another outing.

Wear a maxi skirt.
This season I have gone a little maxi skirt mad! Team a brightly coloured or patterned maxi skirt and wear it with a plain singlet or T-shirt and a cute cardigan or short cropped jacket. You don't have to spend a fortune on maxi skirts. Some of my best finds are from Forever New, Sportsgirl and Bardot! Dress it up with necklaces and bangles.

Smart jeans
And note I mean smart. Bring out your best designer jeans in all various colours and wear them with some espadrills and a blazer and plenty of accessories. I'm thinking True Religion, Replay, Jbrand, Genetics etc etc.  If it gets hot, take the jacket off and let your singlet and a necklace do the talking.

And lastly, things not to wear!
Uggs, tracksuit pants, crap jeans, worn or out of shape t-shirts. You get the jist. At the end of the day you need to be comfortable and stylish. You may be at home, but there is no excuse in looking like a bogan!
