Chevali Designers | What is it all about?

I had a bit of a lightening bolt moment today whilst I was sitting in a seminar (for my real day job). And once I had thought of this idea I couldn't stop it growing in my head and I lost track of listening to the rest of the seminar!

Now, I'm not dress maker! I used to want to be a fashion designer as a kid, and I can happily design and draw dresses until the cows come home, but there is no chance of them every getting made because quite frankly a sewing machine scares me, and I just don't have the patience for it. I know some girls that are an absolute whiz with a sewing machine, and they can pretty much make anything you put in front of them, a pattern copied from somewhere else or a dress they see in a magazine. One of my bridesmaids Jenny has her Mum make her clothes from designs she sees in high street shops. However some of these amazing dress makers struggle to come up with designs themselves to make.

And then there is my online store. I truly believe that recycled clothing is the best way to be green. I heard a quote today that I simply love: "The greenest product is one that already exists". And guess who said it, The guy that runs Ebay!

But I also want to sell things that let people use their skills,  things they like to do as a hobby. I want to encourage this sort of community spirit, I want to show how people make things, how they get brought to life, how they live and breathe. And that's when I thought of the Chevali Designers program.

I would like to bring aspiring dress makers and designers together to make clothes to sell in store at Chevali. I want to find people that make clothes (not in bulk) who want to sell one off hand made pieces to an engaged audience who are already invested in community and the ethics behind vintage clothing.

So, if you are one of those people that make a few things and want an audience to sell them to, or love to design simple clothes but want someone to make and sell them for you, please contact me. This is not going to be a massive commercial venture, this is more about finding truly individual pieces to sell in store together.

Please click the link here to register your details via Facebook. Or pass this blog on to your friends and family that might be interested. I can't wait to work with all of you and to share your passion for design and dress making with everyone.

Thanks!
Sam
