Making the most of ballet flats part 1

So one of the things I've been asked lately is how to wear ballet flats, or flat shoes, because lets face it you can't wear heels all the time. Don't get me wrong I love my heels, but sometimes my feet need a rest, and the height of heels I like just get bigger and bigger and more unrealistic. The thing about flat shoes (especially if you are curvy, hourglass or pear shaped) is it's all about even-ing (if that is a word) you out. So what do I mean by that? You need to create the illusion of length because you aren't getting it from the heels which usually elongate your legs.

So this is the first in a series of separate posts on looks that work well with ballet flats. And thanks to the mecca that is polyvore I've been able to list what items I have used.

This is one of my favourite looks at the moment for the weekend. I pretty much own a version of this entire outfit.

The trick here is to create balance. Get yourself a pair of red ballet flats, or tan colour, but not black. (Never pair navy with black!). The white blazer and stiped t-shirt create a visual distraction upwards and the one button pulls you in at the waist without being too tight in other area.

Then get some slim cut or straight cut navy jeans. You want to make sure they pull in around the ankle just to create a bit of space between the shoe, and then throw over a satchel.

The layers cover up thighs, hips and your bum without being bulky, Try this out I don't think you'll be disappointed. (And if you do want to glam it up for the evening with heels it totally works!)
