OK so what about when you want to wear a skirt with your ballet flats? The trick here is to avoid no-mans land. And by that I mean a skirt that can't decide what it wants to be. You either go above the knee and roll with it short, or you go mid calve or maxi. No skirts hovering around the knee as they do nothing for shape.
So pretty much everyone should have a pair of black ballet flats, and if you live in the southern hemisphere we are heading into winter so this combination is nice for the colder months.
I chose a short skirt here that has body so that it hides thighs, hips and your bum but pulls in at the waist. The vertical patterned tights create the illusion of longer legs. Add a nice black knit to the mix, it doesn't have to be a polar neck. Tuck it in to pull in your waist.
A trench coat worn open or done up with keep the shape of the outfit and a nice black bag completes it. This look will still work with a tighter patterned skirt and plain tights if you can get away with it, or longer skirts. Warm, stylish and practical!
